Juvederm and Restylane Post Treatment Instructions

Swelling and Bruising

Immediately after the dermafiller procedure, the most common reported side effect is redness and swelling at the site of the treatment. This redness and swelling is temporary. Bruising is also a common side effect. Certain medications, OTC analgesics, and herbal remedies can thin the blood which may cause more bruising. Patient are instructed to avoid these medications that thin bloods for 5 -67 days after the procedure.

Cold compresses applied after the treatment to the injection sites will help decrease bruising and swelling. The cold compress can be in the form of gel packs, frozen peas, or even sandwich bags filled with ice.

If your bruising is more significant then we recommend a follow up with your aesthetic health professional.

Manipulation of the Area After Procedure

Patients are often tempted to touch and manipulate the treated area. This can cause problems for several reasons. First, the area may still be numb and patients may not realize the strength of the manipulation. Second, excessive manipulation can cause more swelling and more bruising. Finally, excessive manipulation may cause the product to migrate to unintended areas.

The day after the procedure, patients can touch and massage the area gently. If the patient begins to notice early nodule formation of the accumulation of product, then they can gently massage the area. Patient should call in to the their health professional if any concerns.

Follow-Up

Immediate and routine follow up after the dermafiller treatment is not necessary. However, patients that are more anxious and concerned about the outcome are recommended to schedule a routine follow-up. The follow-up appointment should be scheduled at least 7 days out. This will allow enough time to some bruising and swelling to be minimized.

A follow-up and touch-up appointment should be scheduled at the 4-6 month mark. Patient will notice at at the time that the filler may start to decrease. Therefore, we recommend that additional filler be injected.
