What is the treatment process for IPL for dark, age, and liver spots?
Before starting with an IPL treatment, your healthcare provider at Peach will discuss the treatment options available to help with your dark, age, and sun spots. We will review your medical history, indications, and also contraindications and any previous laser therapies that you have received. The provider will also discuss your goals and together will agree on an optimal treatment plan. Your healthcare provider will apply a thin layer of topical anesthetic to the area and let it take effect. After 15-20 minutes of numbing, your nurse will place a laser handpiece to the area. After a few moments a bright light beam will fire and you will feel heat followed by a gentle snap. This is the concentrated beam targeting the dark spots. This will be repeated until the whole surface of the skin has been treated. The final step in the process includes cleaning the surface of the skin and applying a thin layer of moisturizing sunscreen.
How many sessions of Laser IPL for dark, age, and liver spots will i need?
The effectiveness of the treatments depends on the severity of the dark spots and how deep it they are. Pigmentation that is more shallow can be treated with 2-3 treatments every 4-6 weeks. If the dark, age, and liver spots are deeper and darker, then it may take up 6-8 sessions to see optimal results. It is important to be patient and finish the entire series of IPL treatment before judging if the outcome is ideal.
