There has been some recent public opinion coming from consumers and celebrities about the potential risks to health coming from breast implants. The term used to describe this is Breast Implant Illness. However, plastic surgery experts have weighed in as well. Dr David Song, chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine, has pointed out that there is no scientific evidence to link breast implants and "breast implant illness."
Breast are not without risk, but these risks stem from potential tears in the implants and also from not removing the implants, as they are not meant to stay in the body for a lifetime. Surgeons recommend patient to switch out or remove implants every 8-10 years.
